How To Clean A Comb – One Step At A Time

Cleaning a comb is not that complicated but if you don’t know how to do it properly, it might be time-consuming. Learning the right methods below will help you keep it quick and hassle-free.

With Shampoo

We all have at least a bottle of shampoo available in our bathroom, don’t we? That is why this method of cleaning combs will be easy and straightforward for anyone. Follow the step-by-step tutorial right below to learn how it works!

1. Remove tangled hair from the combs

First thing first, take off all the hair in your comb. You can use your fingers to do that if the amount of hair is not so much. However, if there are tangled knots which can be way more complicated to remove manually, try using a pair of scissors.
After freeing your comb of all the hair clinging to it, moving to the next step.

2. Add shampoo to a sink of warm water

All you need for this step is a sink of warm water and a few droplets of shampoo. Stir them well and you can have your own comb-cleaning solution.

3. Soak, scrub and rinse

Soak your dirty comb in the mixture for about 15 – 20 minutes. As you do this, the dirt accumulated on your comb will be loosened. Then, scrub it with a brush to get rid of the unclean matter. Finally, let the comb dry!

With Vinegar

If you think using shampoo for cleaning is wasteful, you can try out this method with vinegar. The advantage of this kitchen ingredient is that it is affordable, easy to find and will not have any unwanted effect on your comb. Let’s see more details in the following steps.

1. Pour vinegar in a container

Blend vinegar and warm water together following a 1:2 ratio, mix properly.

2. Soak for about 15 – 20 minutes

Put your comb into the mixture and leave it there for 15 – 20 minutes. Vinegar will help to remove all the dirt, dust and germs accumulated on the comb as time goes by. Before you put your comb on the container, make sure it is hair-free.

3. Rinse and dry the comb

This time, you can either soak the comb in a bowl of clean pure water or rinse it with running water. You can also try brushing it if you want it to be perfectly cleaned from not only the dirt but also the vinegar. When all of that is done, let it dry naturally or use a towel to wipe the water away.

With Baking Soda

When it comes to cleaning, baking soda is one of the most powerful solutions. It would be remiss of us to forget not to mention it in our guide. Keep on reading and you will learn how to clean your comb with it.

1. Prepare the baking soda solution

Take a bow of water and add the baking soda in. Stir properly to make the solution. Doing this will help you avoid lumps on the solution.

2. Soak the comb in the solution

Similar to the other techniques we have shown you, remove all the hair strands on your comb at first. Then, soak your comb in the solution for about 20 – 30 minutes.

This allows the baking soda solution to break off the texture of all the unwanted matter coating you comb and wash it all away.

3. Rinse and dry

Rinse your comb with running water until the residue of baking soda is all removed. Let it dry on its own or use a towel, your choice!

How To Clean A Comb With Lemon

If you want to clean your dirty combs with something totally natural, opt for some lemons. The high acidity of lemon can do nothing better than cleaning and breaking down any types of germs and stain.

Take a look at the instructions below and you will know how to clean your comb in an affordable way.

1. Cut the lemon and rub the comb

The best lemon to use here should be in medium-size. Cut it down, but make sure it is big enough for grabbing. Now, take a piece of lemon on your hand while the other hand holds the comb.

Rub the acid-rich juice on your dirty comb. Keep rubbing until the comb looks clean and lighter. Do it all over the comb to make sure that every part of it is finely cleaned.

2. Rinse and finish the cleaning

Put the comb under the running water to remove all the lemon residue and dirt. Then, use a towel to dry the comb or you can just let it dry naturally.

Conclusion

Using a dirty comb is not that pleasant for sure. After reading this article – how to clean a comb, don’t let your comb scramble with dirt, hair strands or germs, and you don’t even want to touch it. With only a few simple steps, you can really change the look of your combs.
